.:Non-useful thoughts for 2008-07-04
- Putting in part of a work day and listening to KEXP podcasts. #
- So I’m going to see Sonic Youth today… #
- OK! Time to go to a free Sonic Youth show with fireworks at Battery Park! Sometimes it’s OK to be impressed by New York. #
.:Dumbbells Are Heavier Than Sandwiches

(Hey! This lives at HuffPost, too!)
If you didn’t know already, I’ve embarked upon a personal health odyssey (misadventure?) as prescribed in a book my friend recommended. It started with a two-week detox. Then I ate bread that tasted better than anything ever. Now we’re working out for real. Like at a gym.
My abs are sore, I’ve spent 90 minutes (and counting) in a gym membership office this week and at least one co-worker probably thinks I’m a jerk for working out today instead of hitting the office bowling night. Look: I love bowling. And I’m totally competitive.
Nobody’ll believe me tomorrow, but I would’ve housed those guys if I showed up, so it’s probably for the best I couldn’t make it. I’ve even got a trick shot — I’ve nailed a strike three or four times in my life in an exotic and dangerous-looking behind-the-back, between-the-legs maneuver that I invented. .:I’m so proud of Joe
I’ve seen Joe Mande’s “Workdays With Maury” and I approve. It’s very funny and sounds mostly true, too! Also, the New York Press interviewed him recently:
What were your duties there?
My main duty at The Maury Show was to read and organize all the viewer mail. But I did a lot of other stuff too. Like: I answered The Maury Show hotline (1-888-85-MAURY), I checked Maury’s voicemail, I got high in a stairwell by myself a lot and sometimes I did sit-ups in the green room when it was empty.
Connie Chung is a beard, right?
I believe she’s an Asian.
What a guy. Go see it tonight or next Wednesday!

.:Free Booze Is Everywhere When You’re Detoxing

If you didn’t know already, I’ve embarked upon a personal health journey as prescribed in the book Strength For Life, by Shawn Phillips. I’m not trying to lose weight or gain weight — I’m just trying to jump start healthy discipline.
A week into the “base camp” section of our training program — which amounts to a two-week detox with occasional light workouts involving pushups, squats and crunches — I was riding the F train back to Brooklyn after watching some friends in a comedy show. It was one in the morning. I was wide awake. Full of energy. Mind ready to race.
It’s terrible. Continue reading Free Booze Is Everywhere When You’re Detoxing…
.:Cooking opportunities
Dave For Life is giving me the opportunity to practice my omelet flipping a lot more. Today I nailed it just in time for scheduled meal #2. Lots of very fast food prep these days as I also post the news!
Also, I’m testing out other video hosting sites, so here’s some Ustream silliness:
I like the live broadcast aspect of it. Vimeo’s next (seems to be all the rage).
